How we help
Using AI and advanced technology to help people and communities prepare, stay safe, and build resilience.
AI-driven forecasting and research
As natural disasters grow more severe, Google’s AI-powered forecasts
and trusted safety information help protect lives and empower
communities.

Engineers review satellite scanning data, where innovative tech meets real-world impact.
AI-driven forecast models
Collaborative research funding
Advanced forecasting with WeatherNext models
AI is bringing faster, more accurate weather predictions to
the world. Created by Google DeepMind & Google Research,
WeatherNext AI models are more efficient and produce more
reliable forecasts than traditional physics-based weather
models, helping authorities make better decisions, and
improving disaster response, grid reliability, and global
food security.

A new collaborative funding approach
Google.org's AI Collaboratives: Wildfires is a strategic
initiative bringing together leading nonprofits, academic
institutions, government agencies and companies to help
people and communities better manage fires by using AI. To
date, Google.org has contributed more than $27 million to
the AI Collaborative: Wildfires.
Real time alerts and information
Google delivers critical information when it matters most — helping
save lives, prevent injuries, and connect people to emergency
services.

When wildfires are active in an area, SOS Alerts on Google Search can help people find timely, trusted information — right from the palm of their hand.

AI and expert-informed alerts
Google's SOS alerts deliver critical crisis information
based on a combination of Google's algorithms and early
detection technology (like FloodHub) and curated review of
authoritative sources by emergency experts.

Public safety and emergency messages
Google's Public Alerts deliver emergency messages such as
weather warnings, earthquake alerts, and other public safety
information based on official alerts generated by public
authorities.

Critical crisis information
SOS and Public Alerts on Google Search quickly reach and
inform millions of people in crisis affected areas around
the world. Alerts surface relevant and ongoing updates from
official sources, as well as top stories, local emergency
numbers and websites, and safety tips from the Global
Disaster Preparedness Center.

Detailed visualization
Google Maps and Waze help people navigate safely during a
crisis by showing prominent alerts for affected routes.
Powered by real-time reports from the Waze community, both
apps can find safer alternate routes away from the disrupted
area.

Other features
Merchants can use Google My Business to update hours, share
critical info, and surface crisis-related locations — like
shelters, food banks, and more — directly on Google
Maps.

Seek safety faster with Android early earthquake warnings
The Android Earthquake Alerts System can detect earthquakes
and alert Android users before shaking starts, so people can
get themselves and loved ones to safety.
Emergency location services
Android’s Emergency Location Service and Pixel’s safety app
help share real-time location and emergency info with first
responders faster during a crisis.
Resources for recovery
We help communities recover from disasters and build long-term
resilience. By supporting frontline nonprofits with funding, innovation,
and technical expertise, we strengthen global disaster response where
it’s needed most.

We empower those on the front lines of recovery with resources and access to technical expertise that enable communities to rebuild.
Grants for local aid
Skill-based volunteering
Employee relief efforts

Resources when and where it matters most
Google.org supports on-the-ground efforts in disaster
recovery and building community resilience. This can include
data-driven and efficient direct cash grants through our
collaboration with GiveDirectly for a person or family's
most pressing needs.

Providing technical expertise through Google.org Fellows
We support nonprofits working on the frontlines of global
disaster response by providing technical expertise,
alongside funding. The Google.org Fellowship program embeds
Google employees like data scientists, communications
experts, or engineers full time with nonprofits.

Employee giving and volunteering
Since 2004, Googlers have given more than $50 million in
employee donations for crisis support globally. We mobilize
volunteers to support local disaster recovery efforts.
