emergency workers to develop technology and programs that help keep people safe, informed 
and out of harm’s way.

Launch of Google Public Alerts

We launched our Public Alerts platform, integrating emergency information from authorities into Search and Maps during crises.

SOS alerts in Google Search and Maps launched

We introduced SOS Alerts in Search and Maps to expand on Public Alerts and provide timely, authoritative information during crises such as natural disasters and severe weather.

Launched flood forecasting pilot initiative

We used AI and advanced computing to build better models that helped predict when floods would happen and improve early awareness.

Android Alerts System launches

Google launches the Android Earthquake Alerts System, turning Android phones into mini seismometers to detect earthquakes and provide early warnings to users in affected areas.

Mapping wildfires with satellite data

In 2020, Google partnered with state and local authorities to develop solutions that delivered critical, accurate information during wildfire events.

Heat alerts come to Search + Heat Resilience Tool piloted
